TAEKWONDO TERMINOLOGY (BASICS)

   A note about Korean pronunciation:  A sounds like the “a” in “father,” not the “a” in “back.”  D is a soft 

   sound, slightly aspirated, almost like a “t.”  I sounds like a long “e”, as in “see.”  J is more like a soft

   “ch”.  R is a light sound, with the tongue tapping the roof of the mouth.  U sounds more like a double

   “o,” as in “flu.”
