Requirements For Becoming A Successful Student
All students should have a clearly defined understanding of martial arts training. The following are requirements for becoming a more proficient practitioner of the martial arts.
· Have faith in your school and style. Without a steadfast belief in your system, interest will diminish and mastery will not be achieved. · Respect your chosen instructors, who have sincerely accepted you as their student. Recognize his/her knowledge and ability as being most worthy of emulation. · Concentrate during training. A strong discipline will result along with more rapid mastery of the art. A strong mental concentration will intensify physical strength. · Cultivate patience during training. Your goal will be reached in good time with proper application. A calm endurance and self-control will aid you in resisting any potential frustration. · Practice as much as possible, not only in the dojang but at home. Every hour of practice will deepen and solidify our basic foundation to prepare for a higher level of training. Consistent practical performance or application of knowledge leads to certain proficiency. · Acquire confidence in yourself through your art. This state of mind implies a cool self-reliance under any circumstances. It offers the assurance of poise and calm in the face of any danger. · Don’t compare your progress with others. Your only competitor is yourself. · Maintain an open mind when practicing martial arts. Give yourself a chance when trying new things. · Do not feel discouraged if the instructor scolds you. This is a part of discipline in martial arts training. The instructor would like to see each student excel to their fullest capabilities.
Always strive to improve yourself. Believe in yourself! Challenge yourself!
